In the project Hosted by the City, students, under the guidance of Johannes Puch, engaged with the public space of Klagenfurt and the theme of “the city as host.” At the heart of the workshop was the question of how architectural structures can enable individual use of urban space and how the diversity of people in the city can be made visible through photography.

In the first workshop, the students explored the city space with their cameras and developed different photographic perspectives on the topic in four groups. One group examined the use of a park bench and staged it as a site of social interaction. Others documented traces of use in public space, such as discarded trash or the repurposing of urban furniture. A third group addressed encounters and interactions, also considering the role of boundaries like hedges or fences. The fourth group focused on architectural details such as blinds, which serve as interfaces between private and public space.

In the second workshop, the students designed exhibition panels using their printed photographs. They then deliberately selected locations in the Lakeside Science & Technology Park that would emphasize and expand the messages of their photo series. This resulted in an exhibition in a semi-public space that recontextualized urban observations and encouraged reflection on public space.
