Martin & Werner Feiersinger — Italomodern. Cesenatico – Triest

Opening, December 1, 2016, 6.30 pm
Exhibition, December 2, 2016 – January 27, 2017

We’ve invited Martin and Werner Feiersinger to adapt their “Italomodern“ project for Kunstraum Lakeside. Martin, an architect, has for several years been investigating little-known works of postwar architecture in Northern Italy. Based on his extensive research, he and his brother, the artist Werner Feiersinger, undertake regular forays through Northern Italy. In 2011, aut, Innsbruck’s architecture center, mounted the exhibition “Italomodern. Architecture in Northern Italy 1946–1976,“ and published a catalogue of the same name. This undertaking provides new insights into the architecture of this era. With an emphasis on individual structures, Martin and Werner Feiersinger included projects by neorealists and rationalists, by brutalists and proponents of organic architecture. The spectrum ranges from small homes and apartment houses to megalomaniac residential complexes, and from machine-like architecture to bold constructions and idiosyncratic one-off works by lesser-known architects. In 2015, volume two—“Italomodern 2“—was published, a consolidation and deepening of the duo’s survey. Taking both books as sources, in this exhibition they focus on architectural projects located in the region between Cesenatico and Trieste, and thus near the Kunstraum. The exhibition will include brochures on the architects, presented on a display developed specially for the show.
